The Analyst allows comparison across the suburbs/townships/rural areas in your Council. You can nominate up to 20 areas to be compared with 3 larger areas. For example, compare 20 suburbs with the LGA, your capital city and state.

Each topic can be used independently or all used together for a complete overview of the areas. You can print with or without data tables to suit your needs.

The Analyst also includes a two-page SnapShot of each area within your place. This SnapShot summarises some important characteristics and shows how each area ranks on a series of criteria.

Topics

  • Demography: Population and growth, life stages, changing life stages, generations
  • Households: families, living arrangements, marriage
  • Housing: types of dwellings, housing tenure, cost of housing, internet access, occupancy
  • Community capital: stability, visitors, volunteers, assistance
  • Local economy: personal incomes, family incomes, employment, occupations, industries, travel to work
  • Community cultures: ancestry, indigenous people, birthplaces, changing birthplaces, language, religious beliefs, main religions
  • Skills and learning: level of education, schooling, tertiary education

The Analyst uses ABS Basic Community Profile (BCP) data series from the 2006 and 2001 Censuses and reports on the usual residents of the places selected, rather than the overnight population, as was the case with the 2001 Census.

We assemble the Census data for your chosen areas into a Census Data File, which is used to produce the Analyst. This is provided free with the Analyst and is a powerful tool that allows you to easily look up any specific Census data.

The Census Data File also produces Analyst Indicators, a 14 page statistical summary of key census indicators across all topics. This can be used to quickly look up statistics.

The Analyst comes as an Excel™ file with 25+ topic sheets and a sheet for each area's SnapShot, as well as a Contents page and User Notes.

As some topics have multiple pages of data tables, a control button allows you to set the number of data table pages that are printed.

Like all our products, the Community Analyst is provided as an Excel file, ready to print, or save as PDF or HTML file for electronic distribution and to put on your website. You can edit text or charts before publishing, or cut-and-paste sections into submissions or reports.
